Navy Women’s Soccer Records 4th Win In A Row

After a 7-0 trouncing at the hands of Stanford back on September 3rd, the Navy women’s soccer team has caught fire.

Monday night, they won their 4th game in a row, defeating Howard, 6-0.  It was their 6th shutout of the season already in just 11 games.

Navy (8-3, 1-0 Patriot League) next plays Loyola University on September 22nd.

In the last four games, Navy has outscored it’s opponents 14-2.  Sophomore Eleanor Pratt leads the Patriot League with 7 goals, followed by teammate Ash Fairow with 4.  Sophomore Baseley McClaskey is the top assist leader in the league with 6.

Sophomore goalie Sydney Fortson is 3rd in the league with a .787 save percentage.  Allowing only 13 goals in 11 games on a total of 48 shots.

The Midshipmen get their work ethic and determination from their coach, Carin Gabarra.  Gabarra, a 1987 graduate of UC-Santa Barbara, was a 4-time all star during her time at UCSB. She scored 102 goals and had 60 assists in her college career.  In 1993, she became the head coach at Navy and under her tenure, they have won at least a share of the Patriot League title seven times, have made three NCAA Tournament appearances and had a 21-year consecutive winning season streak.

They are looking to make a serious run at the NCAAs again this year.  Something this team hasn’t done in a decade.  Their last appearance was in 2007, where they unfortunately lost 4-0 to West Virginia in the 1st Round.

If this team continues to play the way have in these last four games, I know a lot of teams who may be just a little nervous come tournament time!
