Navy Midshipmen Women’s Basketball will travel to Bucknell Bison for Semifinals

The Navy Midshipmen women’s team will be traveling to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania to take on the Bucknell Bison on Thursday evening, at 6pm in Patriot League semifinal play.

The success that the Navy women had last year, is certainly what has propelled them into the great season they have thus far in 2017-18. Last season, the Mids were in the Patriot League championship game, versus Bucknell (L 79-71 in OT). After the PL tournament, the Mids went two rounds in WNIT; beat George Washington Colonials 61-51 in OT, yet fell to Virginia Tech Hokies 75-64. The win against GW was Navy’s first national postseason win in program history, thanks to Head Coach Stepfanie Pemper. Navy’s pistol is Taylor Dunham, who broke Navy’s record of most three-point field goals made in a season (88), on February 28, 2018. This PL semifinal appearance will be Navy’s ninth time within ten years.

Going into this season, Bucknell was on a high. The Bison were Patriot League’s 2017 champions, had a one-game NCAA appearance (lost to University of Maryland Lady Terrapins 103-61), and had the since-graduated pistol Claire DeBoer. Head Coach Aaron Roussell has been with the team since 2012 and has proven to be a great fit. Roussell was awarded Patriot League’s Coach of the Year back-to-back, 2015-16 and 2016-17. In his five seasons (prior to 2017-18), he has produced three Rookie of the Years (Claire DeBoer ’13-’14, Jacquie Klotz ’14-’15, and Kaitlyn Slagus ’15-’16 [Slagus scored her 1,000th career point Monday night in Patriot League quarterfinal win over Holy Cross]).

During regular season, the Bison came out on top both times the two teams met.
