Navy Downs Pitt In The Veterans Classic

ANNAPOLIS, MD- The 2017 Veterans Classic did not disappoint if you were rooting for the home team. Alumni hall was electric as the Navy Midshipman opened the season with a confidence-building 71-62 win against the Pittsburgh Panthers.

After a even paced first half that ended in a one point advantage by the midshipman, we saw a burst at the beginning of the second half as Navy went on a 13-1 run. Pittsburgh missed its first 14 field goals attempted in the second half, which put the young panthers in a hole they could not dig out of.

The veteran Midshipman stayed calm as Pitt closed the deficit to 66-62 with 1:31 left in the second half. They watched the young Jared Wilson-Frame miss both of his free throws. The Panthers had to put the veteran Midshipman on the line where they sunk all four foul shots to seal the opening victory of the season.

Bryce Dulin led the midshipman with 18 points, while Shawn Anderson joined in with 15 points of his own.

For the Midshipman this is a huge win against an Atlantic Coast Conference team. Although Pitt is young and inexperienced this should provide confidence moving on for a Navy team that wants to build on a great end to their 2016-17 season.

The Midshipman are heading to Miami to take on the hurricanes on Sunday and try to go 2-1 against the ACC.
