The Navy women’s soccer team staged a thrilling come from behind victory over the Black Knights of Army last night at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Taking the 2018 Women’s Soccer Star Game 2-1, the Mids improved their season’s record to 9-4-3 (5-1 PL).

Trailing 1-0 with less than eight minutes left in regulation, Navy’s Cadie Higginson (5’7″ junior from New Orleans) scored the game-tying goal in the game’s 83rd minute.

Six minutes later, with only 44 seconds left on the clock, the Mids’ Eleanor Pratt (5’7″ senior from New Orleans) scored the game-winner. The 2,000-plus fans packed into Glenn Warner went wild.

It was not an easy win, however.

After falling behind only 72 seconds into the game thanks to a goal by Army’s Morgan Walsh, Navy had to readjust their game plan. Mids’ head coach Carin Gabarra explained, “We altered the style of soccer we were playing over the course of the game. Our formations, tactics and personnel changed.”

Gabarra also added, “We had to fight to break them (Army) and kept at it. Eventually our resiliency and fitness paid off and we got two spectacular goals by Cadie and Eleanor.”

In the end Navy won the stats against a now 6-4-5 (2-3-1 PL) Army team. Total shots (18-6), shots on goal (9-3) and corner kicks (3-1) all went the Mids’ way on a night few Navy fans will ever forget.

Next up, Navy faces the Lafayette Leopards in Easton, PA on Wednesday night.
