Nationals win first game of NLCS in 2-0 shutout victory against Cardinals

The Washington Nationals beat the St. Louis Cardinals 2-0 last night in Game 1 of the NLCS, giving them a 1-0 lead in the series overall. Anibal Sanchez threw 8.2 fantastic innings and almost no-hit the game until a Jose Martinez single in the 8th. With Daniel Hudson on paternity leave, Sean Doolittle stepped up after Sanchez surrendered the only hit, and Doolittle earned a four-out save. The Nationals’ only two runs came in the form of a Yan Gomes RBI double in the second and a Howie Kendrick RBI single in the seventh.

Today, the Nationals hope to carry this momentum into Game 2 as aces Max Scherzer and Adam Wainwright get their respective starts. First pitch is scheduled for 4:08 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcasted on TBS.
