Nationals vs Diamondbacks 5/12 Lineup and Preview

100px-Washington_Nationals_logo_svg It is time for the Washington Nationals to turn over a new leaf. The Nationals are coming off of getting swept on the road to the Oakland Athletics and being outscored in that series 21 to 4. They in fact have lost six of their last eight ball games and currently have three starting position players on the disable list and are halfway through their first big west coast series as they have three games against the Arizona Diamondbacks remaining before heading back home.

The upside of this series matchup is the Nationals will go up against one of the most struggling teams in baseball in the Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks are off to a dreadful start as they are 15-25 to start the 2014 season. They also have lost 15 of their last 19 home games coming into Monday.

The struggling Nationals offense will look to rebound and have a good chance to in this series due to the fact the Diamondbacks have one of the worst pitching staffs in baseball. On the mound for the opposing Diamondbacks will be Josh Collmenter who while being 1-2 with a 3.44 ERA has only one quality start in his five starts in the early going of the season. The Nationals will send this batting order to combat the Diamondbacks right hander:

Span 8
Rendon 5
Werth 9
Ramos 2
Desmond 6
Espinosa 4
Moore 3
Mclouth 7
Zimmermann 1

The Nationals will send Jordan Zimmermann to the mound to face the struggling Diamondbacks. Zimmermann has gone 2-1 with a very low ERA of 1.78 in his last five starts and has also not given up a run in over ten innings. He has only made one start in his career at Chase Field in which he only gave up one run in seven innings in a win back in 2011.

Tyler Moore will be making the start at first base in place of the injured Adam LaRoche and even though his batting average is a low .182 he does best in games he starts and in those games he has come out with an average of .250 and both of his home runs coming on those days. So while he may not be a good pinch hitter he can impact the offense when he gets the opportunity to start.

The Nationals are looking for a big momentum turn around to regain their lead in the division and it needs to come in this series against the struggling Diamondbacks if they want to not have to fight back and claw their way back into the division once they do get their core starting lineup back intact.
