Nationals vs Braves 6/19 Lineup and Preview

Ryan Zimmerman The Washington Nationals have been one of hottest teams in baseball as they swept the Phillies, won 2 of 3 against the Padres, won 3 of 4 against the Giants and after a bump in the road against the Cardinals the Nationals went onto sweep a two game series against the Astros and in doing so have taken the lead in the NL East. However the Nationals still have one obstacle to overcome before they take control in their division and fulfill their potential and that is the Atlanta Braves.

The Atlanta Braves has won 22 of 29 games against the Nationals including 10 of 13 games at Nationals home Park. This season the Braves beat the Nationals in two games to three earlier in the season before sweeping a three-game set against Washington the following week at Turner Field.

The Braves are coming off of a three game sweep at the hands of the Phillies resulting in their record of 36-35 which puts them 1.5 games behind the 37-33 Nationals.

The Nationals will put the trust in Jordan Zimmermann who will take the mound for them and will look to continue his hot streak as he has allowed only one run in his last 25 innings and has pitched back-to-back complete games. Zimmermann hot streak has a record of 5-3 with a very impressive ERA of 2.98 which is even more impressive considering he had a poor start to the season. In 29.1 innings against the Braves in the last three season he holds a solid 3.38 ERA and has only given up 2 home runs in his five starts.

Gavin Floyd will go against the Nationals for the first time as a Brave. He missed the teams’ first two series this year while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The right-hander has a bad record in four starts against Washington, going 0-2 with a 4.97 ERA. Floyd has pitched well on the road this year with a 2.31 ERA in four starts but has gone 1-2, backed by seven total runs. In his last start he didn’t get any support as he allowed four runs and two homers in 6 1/3 innings while not getting a decision in an 11-6 loss to the Angels.

This is going to be a huge four game series that will decided if the Nationals finally can get over the hump when it comes to their struggles against the Atlanta Braves.
