Nationals to Sign Prospect Armando Cruz

Per John Heyman- the Washington Nationals will be signing 16-year old, Dominican SS prospect Armando Cruz for around $4m. Cruz is currently ranked as the 5th best international prospect in all of baseball. The 16-year-old is the youngest player in the top 10 of the MLB international prospect rankings. Cruz is widely regarded to be the best defensive player in this year’s international signing class and has received plenty of high praise around the league.

This signing follows the Nationals past strategy of signing/drafting young, talented, SS then later deciding where to put them in the infield. The Nationals are hoping Cruz will help boost their farm system, which is currently the worst in all of baseball.

The Nationals are expected to give him one of the largest signing bonuses of the 2020-21 international class next month.
