Nationals Split Doubleheader vs Reds

As every DC sports fan knows, sometimes you rock the red, sometimes the red rocks you. Today the Nationals experienced both in a doubleheader against the Cincinnati Reds.

The day began with a makeup for a game that got rained out Friday night. Gio Gonzalez took the mound and got absolutely manhandled, allowing six runs on ten hits. Meanwhile, the Nationals were held to one run on six hits by Reds pitcher Anthony DeSclefani and only managed to get one hit against the Cincinnati bullpen as Washington fell 7-1, their first loss of the homestand and their first loss to the Reds.

The second game had a completely different feel to it. The Reds scored first on a home run by Jose Peraza on the first at bat of the game to take a 1-0 lead. Anthony Rendon tied the game at 1-1 in a double in the bottom of the first inning and it was all Nationals from here as they went on to win 6-2 to split the doubleheader and clinch a split of this four game series against the Reds, making this the third consecutive series for the Nats in which they will not lose the series. Washington did not make it out of this game harm free however, as three Nationals were hit by pitches. Juan Soto was down for a while, but later finished the at bat, walked, and was driven home on a double by Anthony Rendon to give the Nationals a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning. Bryce Harper was hit in the knee and left the game, not much more is currently known about the nature of his injury. Matt Adams was hit, but uninjured. Adams did have to restrain Reds first baseman Joey Votto after Votto got hit.

Nationals will attempt to win the series tomorrow as Tanner Roark takes the mound at 1:35 PM.
