Nationals rally late, but fall to Braves 11-8

Despite a tooth-and-nail rally of a ninth inning, the Washington Nationals fell to the Atlanta Braves 11-8, making the Nationals 57-50. Erick Fedde suffered a poor start with only 3.2 innings, nine hits, nine runs, four walks, and four strikeouts. After Javy Guerra surrendered the two runs that gave the Braves a total of 11 for the night, Michael Blazek and Tony Sipp controlled the damage with a shutout eighth and ninth.

The Nationals' runs came rather late in the game. Starting in the sixth inning, Brian Dozier hit an RBI single to score Anthony Rendon. In the seventh, Trea Turner hit a solo home run, and in the eighth, Yan Gomes hit a three-run homer to give the Nationals five runs. Finally, in the ninth, Juan Soto hit a solo home run, and Brian Dozier hit another RBI single to score Howie Kendrick.

Tomorrow, the Nationals hope to take the series with Anibal Sanchez against Mike Soroka. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. ET.
