Nationals rally but fall to Braves in 4-3 loss

Despite a late-inning rally, the Washington Nationals ultimately fell to the Atlanta Braves in a tough 4-3 loss. Patrick Corbin threw five innings that yielded eight hits, two runs, two walks, and five strikeouts. Up until Fernando Rodney's second (and final) inning of work for the night, the bullpen had been mostly solid with Tanner Rainey, Tony Sipp, and Wander Suero doing their job in the middle innings.

The Nationals' runs did not appear until the mid-to-late innings. In the sixth inning, Anthony Rendon hit an RBI single to score Gerardo Parra, and in the ninth, when the Nationals were down to their final out, Victor Robles hit a tying two-run home run. Despite the attempt to rally and up the Braves, a bizarre and chaotic attempt at a pitching change from Rodney to Sean Doolittle when things began to go south only ended with Josh Donaldson breaking the tie with a walkoff single, even though Doolittle was clearly available and throwing in the bullpen.

Tomorrow, Anibal Sanchez is set to face Mike Soroka. First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. ET.
