Nationals Lose to Cubs in Ten

The Cubs beat the Nationals at Nationals Park six to four tonight. The game went to extra innings, with the Cubs scoring two runs in the tenth. The win will be credited to Cubs reliever Pedro Strop, his fifth of the season. The loss is credited to Jimmy Cordero, which will be his second of the season. The save is credited to Jesse Chavez, his fourth of 2018.

The scoring started off in the third inning, when the Cubs scored two runs; one on an Anthony Rizzo double and the other on a Ben Zobrist single. The Nats would take the lead in the bottom of the fourth. They first scored on a double by Anthony Rendon that scored Bryce Harper, and then the Nats would take the lead on a home run by Mark Reynolds, his thirteenth of the season. The Cubs struck right back in the next half inning, when Zobrist hit a sacrifice fly that scored in Rizzo. The Nationals took back the lead in the bottom of the fifth, on a single by Trea Turner that scored Spencer Kieboom. The Cubs tied it in the eighth, when Willson Contreras hit into a fielder’s choice, tying the game at four to four. The game went into extra innings, and the Cubs took the lead, on a double by David Bote, who has been killing the Nats all year. Then a single hit by rookie Taylor Davis made it six to four.

With this loss, the Nats are now 69-72. Tomorrow Joe Ross returns after his Tommy John surgery. This will be his first appearance since July 9 of 2017. Jon Lester will be pitching for the Cubs tomorrow.
