Nationals Falter Late In 8-6 Loss vs Phillies

It was an all around good series for the Washington Nationals (or at least it was in comparison) and tonight they tried to finish the sweep over the Philadelphia Phillies.

The night started with Phillies pitcher Jake Arrieta driving in two runs with a single to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead. The Nationals quickly answered with a pair of two run home runs from Trea Turner and Juan Soto to take a 4-2 lead. Anthony Rendon added on his own solo home run to give the Nationals a 5-2 lead. Unfortunately, the Phillies had an answer in the form of a grand slam from Carlos Santana to take a 6-5 lead. Washington tied the score at 6-6 on a single from Andrew Stevenson, but the Phillies regained the lead on a single from Jose Bautista and held on to give the Nationals an 8-6 loss. The Nationals exit Philadelphia winners of two out of three, but still 4.5 games behind the Phillies.

Nationals will have a day off and return home for a three game series against the Milwaukee Brewers this weekend.
