Nationals fall to Marlins 5-3; recap: 9/22/19

The Washington Nationals failed to complete the three-game weekend sweep in Miami, dropping the finale to the Marlins 5-3. The Nats had a 3-1 lead but failed to close the door. Things got started in the first inning when Anthony Rendon hit an RBI single to score Trea Turner. After the Marlins tied it Brian Dozier reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Juan Soto. Austin Voth then singled to score Dozier to make it 3-1.

Hunter Strickland was on the mound in the bottom of the seventh and he gave up a home run to Austin Dean. Then Jon Berti hit a two-run double and came home on a Starlin Castro triple. All of a sudden it was 5-3.

The Nationals return home this week for a five-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies beginning Monday night.
