Nationals fall to Dodgers 9-3; recap: 7/27/19

The Washington Nationals fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-3 today. Matt Grace, who was supposed to be the Nationals' opener for Joe Ross, had pitched an outstanding two innings in which he gave up no hits or runs and struck out three batters. Ross, unfortunately, pitched four innings in which he gave up nine hits and seven runs, walked two, and struck out seven. Javy Guerra finished off the final two innings with one hit, two runs, two walks, and two strikeouts.

In the first inning, Adam Eaton hit an RBI triple to score Trea Turner, and Juan Soto's sacrifice fly scored Eaton. In the bottom of the seventh, Yan Gomes hit a solo home run but the Dodgers had better offense with catcher Will Smith leading the way with a home run and two doubles. Corey Seager and Cody Bellinger also contributed with doubles and singles respectively.

Tomorrow, the Nationals hope to avoid a sweep with Stephen Strasburg slated to duel Walker Buehler. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. ET.
