Nationals Fall Back Below .500, Lose To Brewers 6-1

The Washington Nationals headed to Milwaukee on Monday night to face the Brewers in a series between two playoff hopeful teams in a tailspin. Round  one did not go as planned for the Nationals.

The evening got off to a promising start as Daniel Murphy hit a home run in the second inning to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately this lead would be short lived as the Brewers tied the game at 1-1 on a sacrifice fly by Erik Kratz in the same inning. Milwaukee later took the lead on a fielder’s choice from Kratz in the fourth and added on in that inning on an RBI single by pitcher Julio Chacin as the Brewers go on to win 6-1 to send the Nationals back below.500 at 49-50. It was just the latest in a frustrating chain of events in which the Nationals appear to generate momentum-in this case a 6-2 win over the division rival Atlanta Braves was thought to be the spark-only to squander it the next game-being held to 1 run on 5 hits by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Nationals will attempt to even up the series tomorrow as Jeremy Hellickson takes the mound at 8:10 PM
