Nationals defeat Mets 7-6: Recap 5/16/19

The Washington Nationals beat the New York Mets Thursday afternoon at Nationals Park in regular season action. The Nats record currently stands at 18-25. The Mets drop to 20-22.

Anibal Sanchez just one inning for Washington due to left hamstring tightness forcing him out of the game. Sanchez allowed one hit and two strikeouts. Erik Fedde allowed four hits and two strikeouts while pitching in relief.

In the bottom of the first inning, third baseman Anthony Rendon singled to center, Eaton scored, Robles advancing to third. Also, in the bottom of the first, Howie Kendrick grounded into double play, shortstop to second to first, Robles scored, Soto out at second, Rendon to third. In addition, first baseman Gerardo Parra doubled to deep right center, Rendon scored. Finally, catcher Kurt Suzuki doubled to deep left, Parra scored.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Gerardo Parra hit his second home run of the year as a National, Howie Kendrick scored.

Lastly, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Kurt Suzuki singled to right, Parra scored.

With a series win over the Mets, the Nats begin a four-game series with the Chicago Cubs at Nationals Park starting at 7:05 pm. Pitching for the Nats will be Max Scherzer.
