Nationals blow out Pirates in 13-0 shutout win; recap: 8/19/19

The Washington Nationals shut out the Pittsburgh Pirates in a grand 13-0 win at PNC Park. The Nationals now stand at 68-56, and Javy Guerra is the winning pitcher of the game. Joe Ross threw 3.1 outstanding innings until he got hit with a comebacker from Josh Bell and was pulled from the game out of precaution. Thankfully, the bullpen came to the rescue with Javy Guerra, Kyle McGowin, and Tanner Rainey providing spectacular shutout relief.

The Nationals offense still had power in it from yesterday’s big win against the Milwaukee Brewers. In the first inning, Adam Eaton hit a solo home run, and then Asdrubal Cabrera got out on a sacrifice fly that scored Anthony Rendon. Shortly after, Matt Adams hit a two-run home run to score Juan Soto. In the second, Trea Turner hit a three-run home run to score Yan Gomes and Joe Ross, and then Adams hit an RBI double to score Juan Soto. In the fourth, Cabrera doubled to score Eaton and Soto, and then Adams doubled to score Cabrera to split the lead 11-0. Finally, in the ninth, Cabrera hit a two-run home run that scored Soto, his first home run in his return to the Nationals organization.

Tomorrow, Stephen Strasburg is set to face Chris Archer in the second game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p..m. ET.
