Nationals beat Twins 6-2; recap: 9/11/19

The Washington Nationals beat the Minnesota Twins 6-2 tonight. The Nationals now stand at 80-64, still securing their top Wild Card spot for next month. Stephen Strasburg threw six innings that yielded four hits, two runs, two walks, and seven strikeouts. Wander Suero, Sean Doolittle, Fernando Rodney, and Daniel Hudson all provided excellent scoreless relief.

In the first inning, Juan Soto hit an RBI single to score Adam Eaton, and then Ryan Zimmerman hit an RBI single to score Anthony Rendon. In the third, Howie Kendrick hit an RBI double to score Soto, and then Zimmerman hit a two-run home run. Finally, in the ninth, Trea Turner joined Zimmerman with hitting a home run of his own (solo) to secure six solid, well-earned runs for the Nationals after a disappointing shutout last night.

Tomorrow, Patrick Corbin will wrap this series up against Kyle Gibson. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. ET.
