Nationals beat Pirates 7-1; recap 8/22/19

The Washington Nationals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday evening at PNC Park. The Nationals’ record currently stands at 70-57. The Pirates drop to 52-75.

Max Scherzer pitched a very strong four innings for Washington. Scherzer allowed four hits and three strikeouts while pitching. Hunter Strickland allowed one hit and zero strikeouts in relief for Washington.

At the top of the first inning, right fielder Adam Eaton reached on bunt single to catcher, Turner scored on error by first baseman Bell. In addition to, first baseman Howie Kendrick grounded out to third, Eaton scored.

In the top of the eighth inning, Kendrick homered to left (417 feet), Soto scored. In addition, center fielder Victor Robles singled to left, Parra scored. Also, Cabrera singled to left, Robles scored and Cabrera to second.

Finally, at the top of the ninth, third baseman Anthony Rendon homered to left, (432 feet).

With a win over the Pirates, the Nationals head to Chicago to play the Cubs starting tomorrow at 2:20pm. Pitching for the Nationals is Anibal Sanchez.
