Nationals beat Phillies 5-2; recap: 9/25/19

The Washington Nationals defeated the Philadelphia Phillies for the fourth game in a row and have a chance to go for the sweep Thursday afternoon.

Anibal Sanchez had a solid outing on the mound allowing just two earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Trailing 1-0 after the Rys Hoskins singled home Bryce Harper in the fourth, the Nats answered in the bottom of the inning with Howie Kendrick’s 17th homer of the season.

In the seventh, the Phillies took the lead on a Brad Miller home run but once again the Nats answered right back after the stretch. A sac fly from Victor Robles scored Asdrubal Cabrera. Wilmer Difo followed with a single that drove home Yan Gomes to give Washington a 3-2 lead.

The Nationals added some insurance runs in the eighth with Brian Dozier’s 20th of the season and a Juan Soto sac fly that scored Adam Eaton.

The Nationals and Phillies meet one final time Thursday afternoon with a 4:05 first pitch.
