Nationals beat Indians 8-2; recap: 9/27/19

The Washington Nationals maintain a six-game winning streak following an 8-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians. The Nationals now stand at 91-69. Austin Voth threw six innings that yielded two hits, two runs, and five strikeouts. Hunter Strickland, Wander Suero, and Tanner Rainey provided excellent scoreless relief.

In the second inning, Gerardo Parra hit an RBI double to score Howie Kendrick and Kurt Suzuki, and in the sixth, Parra hit a sacrifice fly that scored Juan Soto. In that same inning, Asdrubal Cabrera’s RBI double scored Kurt Suzuki and Matt Adams, and Trea Turner hit a two-run home run. And to the surprise and long-awaited joy of both Nationals fans and teammates, Parra hit a solo home run in the eighth inning to solidify the win. With being only two games ahead of Milwaukee, this rejuvenated Nationals team inches closer to a home field possibility for the coveted Wild Card Game, something that players and fans eagerly await next week in the start of the journey to the World Series.

For the second game of the series, Patrick Corbin will face Adam Plutko. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET.
