Nationals beat Cardinals 3-1 in Game 2 of NLCS; recap: 10/12/19

The Washington Nationals beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 today, giving the Nationals a 2-0 lead in the NLCS. Max Scherzer pitched another gem and had no hits through the seventh inning. Scherzer’s no-hitter ended with a Paul Goldschmidt single to left, but despite that, the Nationals ace ended his day with seven innings, one hit, no runs, two walks, and eleven strikeouts. Sean Doolittle, Patrick Corbin, and Daniel Hudson provided excellent relief (despite Doolittle surrendering a Jose Martinez RBI double) with Hudson earning a post-paternity leave save.

In the third inning, Michael A. Taylor hit a solo home run to left, and in the eighth, Adam Eaton hit an RBI double to score Matt Adams and Trea Turner. Now with the Nationals heading home for their turn of the series, the team hopes to carry the strong winning momentum. On Monday, Stephen Strasburg will duel Jack Flaherty at Nationals Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:38 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcasted on TBS.
