Nationals Acquire Yan Gomes from Indians

The Nats already are making changes to catcher, making a huge upgrade signing Kurt Suzuki earlier this month. But an even bigger upgrade has been made. The Nationals have acquired Yan Gomes, the first Brazilian-born player, from the Cleveland Indians, according to Jamal Collier.

In return, the Indians got two prospects. Daniel Johnson Jr., an outfielder who was the Nats’ No. 7 prospect who was their fifth-round pick in 2015, and Jefry Rodriguez, a pitcher who made his debut last season.

Last season, Gomes, a 2018 All-Star, had a resurge last season. He hit .266, had 16 home runs, and 48 RBI. In his career, he has a .248 batting average, 87 home runs, and 308 RBI.

Gomes, along with Suzuki, should bring a better duo for the Nationals at a position that was so desperately needed to be worked on.
