MSB staff predictions for WWE Stomping Grounds

This Sunday is the first ever Stomping Grounds PPV for WWE. A majority of the card are rematches we have seen already. You still have some good matchups here, however. Some members of the MSB staff and I are going to give our predictions. Up first is Jared with his picks.

Seth Rollins vs. Baron Corbin for the Universal Title:

“I believe that Rollins will retain his Universal Championship even amidst the special guest referee. I just can’t see Corbin winning the title, especially with Brock Lesnar waiting in the shadows with the Money in the Bank briefcase.”

Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler for the WWE Title inside a steel cage:

“I think Dolph Ziggler will once again lose to Kofi Kingston with a trouble in paradise right in the middle of the ring. I don’t believe Big E or Xavier Woods will be too involved in the match due to the cage.”

Becky Lynch vs. Lacey Evans for the Raw Women’s Title:

“I see The Man taking this one over Lacey Evans. I don’t think there would be any reason for Becky to lose her championship at this time, especially with her being as hot as she is currently.”

Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss for the Smackdown Women’s Title:

“I think Alexa Bliss is going to become our new Smackdown Women’s Champion because of the help from her “friend” Nikki Cross. I believe Cross will somehow interfere with Bayley, ultimately allowing Bliss to pick up the victory.”

Drew McIntyre vs. Roman Reigns:

“I think Roman will pick up the victory here. After McIntyre interfered in Roman and Shane’s match at Super Showdown, I have a feeling McMahon will try to help McIntyre win, but will ultimately fail to do so, allowing Roman to be victorious.”

Ricochet vs. Samoa Joe for the U.S. Title:

“I think Joe is going to pull this one out. Ricochet’s high-flying abilities will make it tough, but in the end, I see this one ending with a coquina clutch.”

Big E and Xavier Woods vs. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens:

“I think the New Day will be victorious in this match. I don’t necessarily know why I think this, but something just tells me K.O. and Zayn will not win this one.”

Now it’s time for my picks. Let’s go!

Alexa Bliss vs. Bayley for the Smackdown Women’s Title:

I don’t see Bayley losing the title anytime soon. With the odd relationship between Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss ongoing, I have a feeling Cross will play a role here. Nikki will be in Bliss’ corner, and it wouldn’t shock me if she cost her the match, leading to a feud between the two. I’m going with Bayley to retain.

My Pick: Bayley

Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre:

This contest is a rematch from WrestleMania 35. Roman Reigns has been in an ongoing feud with Shane McMahon lately. Elias and Drew McIntyre have played a role in the feud, helping McMahon deal with Reigns. Drew is due for a legitimate push. I thought he would win at Mania. However, Roman is the obvious choice here, especially after he lost to Shane at Superstar Showdown. I may be wrong here, but I’m going with Drew McIntyre to pick up the win. He needs it more than Roman I feel.

My Pick: Drew McIntyre

Becky Lynch vs. Lacey Evans for the Raw Women’s Championship:

This one could get interesting. It would not shock me if Lacey won the title. I’m loving her character at the moment because she is such a natural heel. Becky’s momentum has cooled a bit, but she is still the best thing going in the Women’s Division at the moment. It’s a toss up, but I’m going with The Man to retain her title.

My Pick: Becky Lynch

Seth Rollins vs. Baron Corbin for the Universal Championship (Special Guest Referee to be picked by Corbin):

There will be a special guest referee in this match. I say it’s Bray Wyatt, but Corbin ultimately gets to choose who it is. Anyone who was considering it was taken out by Rollins on this past week’s episode of Raw with a steel chair. Rollins followed up on Smackdown by taking out the B-Team, who were considering the role. Rollins is bringing respect to a title that didn’t have much going for it. I’m not a Corbin fan, but he’s been impressive lately. However, I don’t see him winning the title at this time. Rollins retains here.

My Pick: Seth Rollins

Samoa Joe vs. Ricochet for the United States Championship:

This should be a really good one. Samoa Joe’s ground and pound attack taking on Ricochet’s aerial attack will be very intriguing, though Joe can move well for a guy his size. I would love to see Ricochet get to win his first title on the main roster, but I don’t see it happening here. Maybe down the line it will happen.

My Pick: Samoa Joe

Tony Nese vs. Drew Gulak vs. Akira Tozawa Triple Threat Match for the Cruiserweight Championship

205 Live General Manager (and now 24/7 champion) Drake Maverick kicked off this past week’s show announcing this match for Sunday. This should be a good one, with three of the best cruiserweights in the division battling it out for the title. I would love to see Gulak win. He could do a lot for the division. He’s been having some great matches on NXT against Kushida lately. I’m going with Gulak here.

My Pick: Drew Gulak

Jared’s pick is Gulak as well.

The New Day (Xavier Woods and Big E) vs. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens:

I wouldn’t be surprised if they put this match on the pre-show. It will be this one or the Cruiserweight Title match. Sami and KO are always great together whether they are teaming up or as bitter enemies. Woods and Big E will bring the fight. They may do a lot of goofy stuff, but in the ring they mean business. This one could go either way. I’m going with New Day.

My Pick: New Day

Daniel Bryan and Rowan vs. Heavy Machinery for the Smackdown Tag Team Titles:

This match was added on this past week’s edition of Smackdown. They have teased it briefly over the last couple of weeks, and now it has been made official. Both the Raw and Smackdown Tag Titles don’t seem to be that important at the moment. The same can be said for the Women’s Tag Titles too, which is pretty sad. I love tag team wrestling. Anyway, “The Planet’s Tag Champions” Bryan and Rowan retain here.

My Pick: Daniel Bryan and Rowen

Jared’s Pick: Daniel Bryan and Rowen

Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler in a steel cage for the WWE Championship:

This could be the match of the night. Both men have worked together for years and know each other so well. Just think, they fought for the mid-card titles (Intercontinental and United States). Now they are feuding over the WWE Championship. Talk about coming full circle. We will get some crazy spots from both guys in this one. In the end, Kofi remains your WWE Champion.

My Pick: Kofi Kingston

That’s it for our picks! We are all hoping for a good show on Sunday! The build and moral for this show have been so-so. The ticket sales have not been good either.

According to wrestlinginc.com, WWE is actually offering a 2-for-1 deal on tickets. All hard camera sides have been closed off in order to try and fill the TV sides. Let’s see how it all plays out.

We hope you enjoyed our picks! We will see you next month for Extreme Rules predictions!
