Mount Saint Mary’s V.S. #13 Notre Dame Men’s Basketball: Game Recap

The Mountaineers faced off against the #13 ranked Fighting Irish tonight at Notre Dame. As expected, Notre Dame ran away with the game defeating the Mount 88-62, after letting the Mountaineers hang around the entire first half. The Mountaineers had bright moments throughout the game, but turnovers; fourteen to be exact. Halted any spark that the offense created. The Mount heavily relied on their game from behind on the arc, but that ultimately failed them by shooting 11-35 from three. Senior Guard Junior Robinson, led the team in points with fourteen tonight, but also led the team in turnovers with five. After another twenty plus point defeat for the Mountaineers, the Mount can take positives from this game for their next tough test against Georgetown Wednesday night. I would like to see the Mount give more minutes to Freshman Forward Omar Habwe. Omar, in 19 minutes of action, held his own against the much stronger Notre Dame big men. Habwe posted eight points and five rebounds tonight, and at some points, he seemed to be the only one in blue that could grab a rebound. The Mountaineers must become more physical in the paint, and less reliant on the three ball. If the first two games of the season are any indication, the Mount is very streaky from three and if they can’t convert, they start to force things. Let’s see how the Mount will fair against Georgetown this Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
