Morgan State trounces Florida A&M on the Road

New Year, new winning streak. Morgan State used a strong second half and titanic contributions from the usual suspects to whip Florida A&M on their home floor 87-68 this afternoon. Only up 5 points at halftime, the Bears buckled down on defense and only allowed 30 points after halftime.

Tiwian Kendley and Phillip Carr provided a devastating one-two punch for coach Todd Bozeman’s squad as Kendley matched a season high with 35 points, including 4 of 13 from behind the arc while his sidekick Carr also scored a season high 32 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. The Bears got off to a fast start with a 20-5 lead after 7 minutes but the Rattlers fought back and closed the gap to a halftime score of 43-38.

FAM U had 3 players score in double digits led by Marcus Barham’s 22. Desmond Williams added 16 and guard Justin Ravenel chipped in 11. The loss brings the Rattlers record to 2-11 on the year and gives the Bears not only a two game win streak, but 2 conference wins to boot. If the Rattlers want to look for factors in the loss they will notice poor defense and turnovers as big contributors. Morgan shot 51% for the game while Florida A&M committed 18 turnovers in the contest. Bozeman’s team is still getting meager production from the supporting cast but when your top two players score 67 of the 87 total points, it masks that discrepancy.

Next up for the now 6-9 Bears is a home game against conference for Savannah State. The game will be played Monday night at Hill Field House arena in Baltimore. Tip off is at 7:30. After a December hibernation that imvolved a 7 game losing skid, the Bears will be eager to keep their winning streak going against a team that is only 4-12 on the season.
