Morgan State Men’s Basketball Update

After suffering a four game losing streak, head coach Todd Bozeman’s squad looks to inch closer to the .500 mark when Morgan State takes on George Mason this Friday, December 22 in Fairfax, Virginia.  A victory there would bring the Bears’ record to 5-6 and put a stop to their recent skid.

Led by junior guard Martez Coleman and senior forward Phillip Carr, the team hopes to get a strong effort from their supporting cast this game. Coleman is averaging just a smidge under a dozen points in ten games this season while Carr, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s reigning Defensive Player of the Year, is also helping on the offensive end by pouring in 12.3 points per contest.  Other contributors include sophomore guard Stanley Davis, who is averaging 7.9 points a game while freshman guard Lapri McCray-Pace plays his role by posting 11.6 points and 4.6 rebounds a game.

It’s been a decade since the March Madness Cinderella Patriots advanced to the Final Four under coach Jim  Larranaga and the program has had to endure several losing seasons since that magical run. They come into Friday’s battle with a 5-7 record, also seeking to get their record one game closer to even before conference play starts in January. Dave Rawlings is the head coach.

The Bears’ have two more games before the calendar turns. December 27 in Las Vegas, Nevada versus Grand Canyon University and December 30 in Northridge, California against California State University. Coach Todd Bozeman helped develop a young Jason Kidd when the budding star was a California Golden Bear so he knows how to win. Hopefully his tutelage and experience can produce some better performances and results from a different group of Bears at Morgan State.
