Morgan State Comes Up Short Against North Carolina A&T

Morgan State’s fast start against North Carolina A&T didn’t last as they fell to 7-10 on the season with a 69-67 loss yesterday in Greensboro. It’s the first conference loss for the Bears and it was due in large part to playing a poor second half.

Davaris McGowens scored 19 points to go with 7 rebounds for the Aggies and he had plenty of help. Amari Hamilton scored 13, Denzel Keyes had 12 and Femi Olujubi chipped in with 10 points. After the Bears jumped out to a 12-2 lead, Amari Hamilton dropped back to back 3 pointers to get A&T back in it. In fact, the numbers between both teams were very similar. If there is one stat that separated the two, it was the Aggies 7 three pointers made to Morgan only making 3. The win gives A&T a 2-0 mark in the MEAC conference and drops Morgan to 3-1.

Tiwian Kendley and Phillip Carr provided the scoring punch as usual for the Bears and although Kendley scored 20, he missed all four of his 3 pointers and it also marked the first time this season he failed to reach 25 points. David Syfax did score 13 points for Morgan but no one else came close to double digits which has become a recurring theme for Todd Bozeman’s squad. They need to take better care of the ball as this marks the fourth straight game the Bears have committed more than 15 turnovers.

Morgan will stay in North Carolina as they have a quick turnaround with a game Monday night against North Carolina Central, who are on a 5 game winning streak. Tip off is at 4pm.
