Montgomery And Towson Stun Loyola Plus UMBC Gets Revenge

The Towson men’s lacrosse team led Loyola for seven seconds during regulation but Tim Montgomery made sure they got the win in overtime. The junior attackman completed his first career hat trick with the game winning goal. The Tigers (3-6) beat the 12th ranked Greyhounds 7-6. Loyola (4-3) were led by Aidan Olmstead and Joey Kamish with two goals apiece. Bailey Savio won 12 of 16 face-offs. Towson outshot Loyola 38-34 and won ground balls 28-27.

Meanwhile in Catonsville UMBC got revenge for a midweek OT loss at Binghamton by beating them 7-6. Brandon Galloway scored the game winner with 7:48 left for the Retrievers (4-1). He finished with two goals along with Dane Hall. Nick Dupuis added a goal and two assists for the winners. The Bearcats (2-2) were led by Daniel Mackinney with two goals.

Sunday brings three big games for local teams. At noon third ranked Maryland heads to New Jersey for a rematch with fifth ranked Rutgers. The Terps won the first meeting 19-11 two weeks ago in College Park. Then at 2pm 17th ranked Johns Hopkins heads to Penn State. The Nittany Lions are off to a slow start at 1-4 including a 13-6 loss to Hopkins two weeks ago at Homewood. Both of those games are on ESPNU. At 3pm Navy comes back from a three week Covid pause to host Bucknell. The Mids resumed practice this past Monday after a campus wide restriction of movement limited them to a couple hours of physical activity per day. That game is on ESPN+.
