Mason Foster to be released by Redskins
Washington, D.C. sports reporter Erin Hawksworth has reported that the Washington Redskins have informed inside linebacker Mason Foster that he will be released by the team.
The release will save the Redskins $4 million in cap space. The move is somewhat surprising, given that the team lost Rueben Foster for the year earlier this summer.
Foster has been with the Redskins since signing as a free agent in 2016. He has started 38 games since then, including all 16 last season. In 2018, he intercepted two passes and recovered two fumbles, to go along with 81 tackles. Foster has struggled in recent seasons in coverage.
Foster’s tenure with the team has not been without controversy. In a leaked Instagram message last December, Foster slammed the team and the fans, stating “F- this team and this fan base.”
Foster has since apologized for the messages, and his cousin took responsibility.
