Maryland W-Soccer Closes Out 2017 B1G Ten Season With 2-0 Loss To Purdue
WEST LAFAYETTE, In.- The 2017 Maryland Terrapins Women’s soccer team ended their B1G Ten season Wednesday night against Purdue, falling to the Boilermakers, 2-0.
Though Maryland (7-8-3; 1-8-2 B1G Ten) finished last in the 2017 B1G Ten standings and will miss out in the conference tournament, the Terrapins did show great improvement over their 2016 season, which saw the team go 3-15-1, with a 1-10-0 B1G Ten record.
At Folk Field Wednesday night, Red-shirt Senior F Maddy Williams scored both goals for the Boilermakers (10-6-2; 5-4-2 B1G Ten), her first came at the 11:29 mark of the first half and her second, at 77:11 in the second half. Purdue enters the 2017 B1G Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament as the #7 seed and will travel to play #2 seed, Northwestern (10-6-2; 7-3-1 B1G Ten) on Sunday afternoon in the first round.
The Boilermakers out-shot the Terrapins 17-8 and held a 7-4 edge with shots on goal.
Even though she allowed two goals, Terrapins Red-shirt Junior GK Rachel Egyed have a total of five saves, including one off of a penalty shot.
For 2018, the goal for the Maryland Terrapins is to hopefully have another four-game improvement over this year’s record and make the B1G Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament for the very first time!
