MARYLAND SUSEPENDS FOOTBALL WORKOUTS DUE TO POSITIVE COVID TESTS

The University of Maryland has suspended voluntary football workouts after reporting nine positive COVID 19 tests. A total of 185 players and staff were screened last Tuesday and Wednesday. They received the results on Saturday showing the positive tests. The unnamed individuals have been notified and are self isolating. There has been no date announced for the resumption of workouts.

The Prince Georges County Health Department has begun contact tracing. This will determine who has to start a 14 day self observation period. Overall 290 people have been tested since the players returned to campus on June 15th. That number includes the 9 positive tests so the positivity rate is 3.1%.

This comes on the heals of the Big 10 announcing a conference games only schedule for all fall sports. The Pac 12 also made that announcement this past week.
