Maryland Earns Six Seed in the NCAA’s, Awaits the Winner of Belmont and Temple

For the fourth time in the last five years, the Maryland Terrapins have earned the right to dance in the NCAA tournament. The Terps drew the No. 6 seed in the East Region and on Thursday at 3:10 P.M. in Jacksonville they will play either Belmont or Temple, two number 11 seeds who play Tuesday in a play-in game.

Maryland played well this year against a tough Big Ten, going 13-7 in conference and 22-10 overall. The conference boasts the most NCAA bids with eight. The Terps stumbled in the Big Ten tournament, however, losing to 13 seeded Nebraska in the second round. The Terps rank in the top 30 in both offense and defense in KenPom’s rankings, one of only 12 teams in the country to do so. The Terps don’t exactly enter the NCAA’s on a hot streak having lost three of their last four and four of their last seven.

The two teams that Maryland will potentially play on Thursday go head-to-head on Tuesday evening at 9:10 P.M. in one of the tournaments “First Four” games. Both teams made the tournament despite failing to win their conference tournaments. Belmont went 26-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference while Temple went 23-9 in the American Conference. The game is scheduled to air on TruTV called by Ian Eagle, Jim Spanarkel, and Jamie Erdahl.
