Maryland Adds Three Big Commitments In Lacrosse

The college lacrosse world is rapidly changing during the pandemic and the University of Maryland is working hard to reap the benefits. Last Monday, Yale freshman defenseman BJ Burlace entered the transfer portal. Speculation began that he was heading to Maryland where is dad Brian starred as a defenseman from 1988-92. A day later BJ’s younger brother Colin a rising HS senior from St. Mary’s in Annapolis announced he had changed his commitment from Yale to the Terps. This decision made it clear where BJ was headed.

Today BJ announced that he was headed to College Park, In addition to the Burlace brothers the Terps have gotten a commitment from attackman Daniel Kelly of Calvert Hall. He will join the team next season. Kelly had been committed to North Carolina where a lot of his family members went to school. All three players were top 12 recruits according to the Inside Lacrosse rankings

The next few weeks will be really interesting because the Ivy League decided that the individual universities would decide whether to honor the extra year granted to spring sports athletes by the NCAA. Princeton and Yale have already decided they will not honor it. Tigers star Michael Sowers has entered the transfer portal so he can play somewhere else as grad student next year. Meanwhile Yale face-off man TD Irelan announced that he will head to the pro ranks, He had already transferred from Albany to Yale during his career so he decided that was enough.

There are still a lot of people in the transfer portal so more decisions will be forthcoming and I will be recapping them here.
