Mark Trumbo to start 2019 season on Injured List

Baltimore Orioles manager, Brandon Hyde, announced Sunday that veteran hitter Mark Trumbo will start the season on the Injured List.

Following a season ending knee surgery back in August of 2018, Mark Trumbo has yet to fully recover. Trumbo only stepped up to the plate 13 times this spring over 6 games. In those at bats he recorded only two hits and one walk.

Mark Trumbo not starting the season on the 25-man roster is not necessarily a bad thing. A knee injury like Trumbo suffered needs proper rehab time, and throwing him out there before it’s ready would make matters even worse. Brandon Hyde said there has been no setbacks. They just want to ensure Trumbo is fully healthy before stepping back on the field.

Trumbo not being the DH come opening day does leave a hole. With the crowded outfield, Trey Mancini might see himself being the designated hitter a little bit. Renanto Nunez is also a likely candidate as he is still not able to throw the ball well due to an arm injury.

Mark Trumbo last saw the field back on August 19th of last season, and Baltimore Orioles fans alike hope to see his return soon in 2019.
