Mannyball: AKA The Bryce Is Right, November 16

This past week brought even more crazy news in terms of the free agencies of Bryce Harper and Manny Machado. Here’s a recap of this past weeks news since Saturday, November 10.

BRYCE HARPER: It was revealed on Monday that over the past summer, the Nationals received a trade request for Harper from the Astros. According to CBS, he vetoed the trade himself. On Wednesday, the Yankees announced they are officially back in for Harper, but are considering having him now play first base instead of their current first basemen, Luke Voit and Greg Bird. Another option was they would also consider trading an outfielder to some team, and my speculation is that if they do trade one of their starting outfielders, it would probably be Aaron Hicks. Yesterday, TMZ caught him at LAX and he was using food to describe where he plans on signing next as clues. He mentioned Chicago food is his favorite food, which might hint he could be joining his best friend Kris Bryant on the Cubs, OR he could sign with an underdog in his free agency signing the White Sox. He also seemed to hint at New York, meaning either the Yankees, or the Mets (NO, BRYCE, NO) could sign him.

MANNY MACHADO: Yankees GM Brian Cashman is right now questioning whether he should go after Machado, considering Machado spiking Brewers first baseman Jesus Aguilar in the NLCS. Anyways, it seems the Phillies seem to be going full on to get Machado to sign with them. The Yankees have also said they are now in the run for Mr. Miami. Machado also gained some more controversy after making some comments about hustling, saying he’s “not the type of player that’s going to be Johnny Hustle.” This was after he wouldn’t hustle out a ground ball he hit in the NLCS. Teams have said this is not good for him, because it won’t get him as much money as he would like in his contract. Cashman says, “This will not sell.” These comments could very well decide Machado’s fate.
