Mancini tallies 3 hits, but Orioles lose rubber match to Rangers 4-3: Recap 6/6/19

The Baltimore Orioles lost 4–3 against the Texas Rangers in game three of their road series in Arlington.

The Orioles lost the series 2-1 following a one-run loss in last night’s game and an extra-inning win in the first game.

David Hess started for Baltimore and pitched six innings in a losing effort. Hess is now 1–8 on the season.

The O’s started hot, as Trey Mancini hit a solo home run in the first inning to take an early 1–0 lead. Mancini has now hit 13 long balls on the season and continues to make his case for an All-Star appearance.

Mancini highlighted the Orioles’ offense tonight, going 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.

The Rangers did not wait long to strike back, as they scored twice in the second inning to retake a 2–1 lead.

Hunter Pence knocked a solo home run out of the park, and Ronald Guzmán hit a RBI double with two outs to score Asdrubal Cabrera.

In the fifth inning of a back-and-forth game, Stevie Wilkerson singled to score catcher Chance Sisco, who hit a leadoff double to begin the inning. The Orioles and Rangers were only tied at 2–2 until the Rangers scored again in the bottom of the fifth.

A costly error by Chris Davis in right field allowed Isiah Kiner-Falefa to score off a Delino DeShields base hit. Later in the inning, Danny Santana hit a sac-fly to score DeShields and give Texas a 4–2 lead.

In the top of the sixth, Davis made up for his error by scoring Hanser Alberto on a RBI double to cut the Rangers’ lead to 4–3.

David Hess was pulled in the bottom of the seventh and relieved by Miguel Castro. Hess finished the night with two strikeouts and four runs (three earned) off eight hits. The 25-year-old was solid against a Texas team that is third in MLB in runs scored.

The O’s failed to surmount any kind of comeback late in the game and eventually fell to the Rangers 4–3. Ariel Jurado was the winning pitcher for Texas, and Shawn Kelley recorded the save.

Baltimore now departs Arlington with a 19–43 record and awaits a series with the Houston Astros. The three-game series pits two teams on opposite sides of the spectrum, as Houston maintains the best record in the American League, while Baltimore is currently tied for last in the American League with Kansas City.
