Mancini named Orioles MVP

Outfielder/infielder Trey Mancini has been named the Baltimore Orioles most valuable player by local media. Mancini has had a great season offensively a with over 30 home runs and counting.

Mancini felt with trade rumors and was the vocal leader on and off the field for the Orioles. Mancini’s award is well deserved. Here is the Orioles press release.

ORIOLES INFIELDER/OUTFIELDER TREY MANCINI NAMED 2019 MOST VALUABLE ORIOLE

The Orioles today announced that infielder/outfielder TREY MANCINI has been voted the winner of the 2019 Louis M. Hatter Most Valuable Oriole Award by members of the local media who cover the team on a regular basis. He will be recognized for his accomplishments in an on-field ceremony prior to Sunday’s home finale against the Seattle Mariners.

Mancini enters play today hitting .286/.356/.536 (163-for-569) with 36 doubles, two triples, 34 home runs, 100 runs scored, 93 RBI, and 56 walks. Mancini ranks tied for second among American League outfielders in total bases (305), third in runs scored (100), tied for third in hits (163), fourth in doubles (36), sixth in RBI (93), seventh in home runs (34), and eighth in OPS (.892). He is one of three players in the American League to have hit at least 34 home runs and 34 doubles.

071719_TO_0494Mancini has set career-highs in hits, doubles, home runs, runs scored, RBI, and walks this season. He hit six home runs in the Orioles first 12 games, tying him with Frank Robinson (1969) and Chris Davis (2013) for the most in team history. Mancini became the 10th different player (15th time) in Orioles history to record a season with at least 30 doubles, 30 home runs, and 100 runs scored. Mancini and teammate INF JONATHAN VILLAR became the first set of Orioles teammates to each score over 100 runs in the same season since 2015 (Davis and Machado). It is the 11th time in Orioles history at least two Orioles scored 100-or-more runs in the same season. He is one home run shy of recording the seventh 35+ home run and 35+ double individual season in Orioles history.

Mancini leads the Orioles in doubles, home runs, RBI, on-base percentage (.356), slugging percentage (.536), OPS, and total bases. He has made 81 starts in the outfield, including 78 in right field and three in left field, and 48 starts at first bases. He was named the Orioles Heart and Hustle Award winner for the first time.

The Most Valuable Oriole Award is named in honor of the late LOU HATTER, a former sportswriter for The Baltimore Sun who covered the Orioles for 27 years. Balloting for the Most Valuable Oriole Award is conducted with voting on a 5-3-1 basis. Also receiving votes were HANSER ALBERTO, JOHN MEANS, RENATO NÚÑEZ, ANTHONY SANTANDER, and JONATHAN VILLAR.
