Legendary Wrestling Big Man King Kong Bundy Passes Away at 61.
Christopher Pallies, known to wrestling fans as King King Bundy passed away on Monday according to family and friends. At this time, the cause of death is not known. If you were a wrestling fan in the eighties, you likely rooted very hard against this guy as he was one of the biggest heat generators of the WWE’s golden age.
Bundy got his start in the business in the WWF in 1981 going by the name of Chris Canyon before moving to the World Class Wrestling Association. He worked the AWA and the NWA, where he developed his gimmick of demanding a five count for pinfalls, before re-joining the WWF in March of 1985. Bundy was quickly given a huge push as a heel, dominating opponents and defeating professional jobber “SD” Special Delivery Jones in “nine seconds” at the first Wrestlemania.
After this Bundy was pushed to the top of the card spending much of the next year feuding with Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan as part of Bobby Heenan’s heel family. During this time he kayfabe injured both superstars setting up a showdown with Hogan at Wrestlemania 2. After losing at Wrestlemania 2, Bundy was relegated to the mid-card where he remained until leaving the company in 1988. Bundy spent the rest of his career, up until 2007 bouncing around the independent circuit. He spent more recent years performing stand-up comedy in smaller night clubs. Bundy was scheduled to attend WrestleCon on April 5th and 6th and even posted this to his twitter account just a few hours before passing.
