LAX Recap: Navy Falls to Holy Cross, 12-9

Despite a strong performance from senior co-captain Ryan Wade, Navy suffered a defeat for a third game in a row, losing to Holy Cross, 12-9, in men’s lacrosse Saturday.

The Midshipmen’s season record now stands at 4-5. In the Patriot League, the Mids are a disappointing 2-3. With the win, the Crusaders of Holy Cross improve to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Despite Navy tying the contest five times, the Mids only held one lead all afternoon, a 1-0 advantage in the first period. Ryan Wade scored four points Saturday, extending his point-scoring streak to 33 games. The senior also passed the career 100-point mark, becoming the second Midshipmen to reach that goal this season (Greyson Torain reached 100 goals in Navy’s first game of 2019.)

Navy suffered from 22 turnovers and gave up four goals on penalties. Ryan Kern, the Mids’ goalkeeper, did make 15 saves, bringing his career total to 355. Nick Barry was 13 of 25 in faceoffs for Navy, a fine accomplishment facing top-ten ranked Dan O’Connell on the ‘x’.

For Holy Cross, Justin Lynskey scored four goals and added an assist to bring his game total to five points. Defenseman Matt Farrell contributed five takeaways to the Crusaders’ win, while Will Murphy forced four turnovers.

Up next for Holy Cross is a trip to Easton, PA to face Lafayette on April 6th. Meanwhile, Navy will head to Hamilton, NY to take on Colgate next Saturday for their final road game of the regular season.
