Lax Preview: #7 Towson at #18 Georgetown

In one of the biggest lacrosse games of this weekend, undefeated, 7th ranked Towson travels to Georgetown to take on the 18th ranked, undefeated Hoyas at noon on Saturday. The Tigers are coming off of a victory against Mt. Saint Mary’s and Georgetown defeated Robert Morris last weekend. This promises to be the toughest test for each team this season.

The Towson offense is led by Sophmore Brody McLean with eight goals on the season and Senior Timmy Monahan with five assists. The Hoyas are led by Senior Daniel Bucaro with seven goals and six assists. Junior Jake Carrraway has also logged six goals.

On the defensive end of the field, Towson features Junior Gary Bodden who has caused six turnovers in the Tigers’ first two games. On the other end Georgetown’s Patrick Aslanian who is third in the nation with 3.5 forced turnovers per game. In addition, Towson’s Alex Woodall is second in the nation with twelve ground balls per game.

In the cage, both teams feature first year starters that have played very well, thus far. Junior Tyler Canto has save 65% of shots against this year for the Tigers while Sophomore Owen McElroy has saved 60% for the Hoyas.

A key to the game for Georgetown will be whether or not they can find a way to win face-offs. Towson has won 69% of their face-offs this year, good for fifth in the country. On the other hand, the Hoyas have struggled, winning less than 45%. This may limit the number of possessions the Hoyas have, and they are going to need plenty, as the Tigers have given up only fifteen goals, total, in their two games this year. The Hoyas can score, but so can Towson.

The Hoyas will look for an upset win before heading into a weaker part of their schedule with Mt. Saint Mary’s (0-2), Hofstra (2-0) and Furman (1-3) ahead. Towson is looking to build moment before their showdown with first ranked Loyola on February 27.
