Lackey, the latest Red Sox to show no class

20110426-1018 John Lackey.jpgThe Boston Red Sox have a lot of players that show little to no class and sportsmanship, from David Ortiz beating in a phone to David Ross trying to start fights with every team. For my rant on Ross go here. John Lackey is the latest Red Sox to join in the long Red Sox tradition of being classless. Last night after Nelson Cruz went five-for-five including a home run Lackey instead of saying “good game” said this to the media.

Lackey obviously bringing up the Biogenesis scandal that Cruz was suspended for last season. Agree with what Cruz did or not, Cruz is obviously not taking any PED’s now. Cruz has not failed a drug test this season and is having a career year doing things the right way. From all accounts, Cruz has been nothing but a good teammate and leader for the Orioles. Cruz is going to play in the All-Star game and deserves to.

Lackey has been in the league long enough that he should know better. I do not see Nick Markakis or Adam Jones calling out a specific player just because they beat them. Yes several Orioles players have been outspoken about how much they hate steroids but they have never disrespected an opposing player.  Lackey may also choose to forget that Ortiz failed a drug test way back in 2003 and has been long suspected to be a steroid user, but that is a rant for a different day.

Remember, Lackey has had a bad image before, he divorced his wife while she was battling cancer, that is heartless and cold.  Lackey seems to fit in the Red Sox’s locker room just fine.

Here is what Buck Showalter had to say about Lackey’s comments.
