Keys Have a Shot at the Postseason

The Frederick Keys are currently riding a three-game win streak and are now only one game out from the division lead. The keys have been playing extremely well and earned themselves a 13-7 record in the month of July and are looking for a sweep tonight against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

The Keys also recently announced that outfielders Michael Burgess and Glynn Davis were called up to play for the Double-A Bowie Baysox. Burgess is batting .315 with 15 homeruns, 68 RBIs and 101 hits. Davis will be getting his first shot at Double-A and certainly deserves it after hitting .295 with 31 RBIs, 20 stolen bases, and 104 hits. Burgess and Davis will also be joining former Keys player, Mike Yastrzemski, after he was previously called up this season.

Other notable Keys players are Orioles number one prospect, Dylan Bundy, who earned his first win after returning from Tommy John surgery. Bundy pitched six shutout innings and gave up three hits, two walks, and recorded one strikeout. This is a significant improvement from his previous three starts in which he gave up at least three runs in 4.2 innings pitched or less. It is necessary for Bundy to continue pitching like he did against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in order for him to have a successful career in the minors and most likely with the Orioles.

The Frederick Keys continue to have success on the road, earning a 13-5 away record, which is second best in the Carolina League. However, the 3-11 record they have at home will eliminate any chance they have at reaching the postseason if they are unable to the turn things around in front of the home crowd. Tomorrow’s three game home series against the Lynchburg Hillcats (15-18) will be a good indicator if they are up to the task and ready to make the push for the postseason.
