Kevin Gausman leaves game after collision at home plate
Orioles ace Kevin Gausman left Monday’s spring training game following a collision with Detroit Tigers INF Jeimer Candelario during a play at the plate.
After letting up an RBI single to center field, Gausman ran behind home plate backing up the possibility of an over throw. While Candelario, who was the on-deck batter at that time, was also running toward home plate to signal to the baserunner where the throw was going.
Both players left the game after falling to the ground. “I ran right into the brim of his helmet,” Gausman told reporters after the game. Gausman made sure to say “he’s fine” after Monday’s collision.
