Jonathan Allen Injury Worse Than Expected

According to ESPN, Redskins’ star rookie defensive lineman Jonathan Allen was ruled out for the season with a Lisfranc injury in his left foot. The Redskins had originally estimated Allen to be out for three to four weeks, but he has now been ruled out for the season. Second year defensive lineman Anthony Lanier is expected to replace him.

While Allen had only one sack so far on the season, he contributed lots to rushing passers and forcing bad throws, as well as stopping running backs at the line. The Redskins’ coaches have said that Allen was already a defensive force as a rookie.

Lanier was an undrafted free agent picked up by the Redskins last year. He is considered to be a fine option to fill in for Allen, but lacks the spark that Allen brought to the defense.
