Johan Santana update

The Baltimore Orioles have some good news regarding Johan Santana.  Santana has been pitching in extended spring training and his velocity and pitch count has improved and it looks like there have been no set backs.

According to Brittany Ghiroli, Santana will make one more extended spring training start.  After the extended spring training start Santana will pitch one game at double-A Bowie and one game at triple-A Norfolk.   The Orioles will see where Santana is after that.

Santana does have a June first opt out but that should not be a problem for the Orioles and Santana to workout.

When and if Santana does come up the Orioles could use him as a starter or in the bullpen.  Right now the Orioles are stretching him out to be a starter.

Update: Orioles are currently working on Santana’s contract. No word yet on Santana’s opt out.
