Jason Smith picks up player option for 2018-19 season

According to reports Jason Smith has picked up his $5.4 million option to continue with the Washington Wizards for the 2018-2019 season.

This is a big salary for a 32 year old player who does not have a role with the team. He played a career low 285 minutes and over half of those came in garbage time.

The problem with Smith is that he is not fast or quick enough to defend fours or small fives. And he is not strong enough to guard traditional fives.

Offensively, he was just plain bad this season. After shooting a 47.4 from downtown last season he went he shot 12.5 from the arc this season. He simply was not good enough to take away minutes from Ian Mahinmi or Mike Scott.

We should expect the Wizards to cut him or trade him in the upcoming off-season.
