Jarvis Landry Getting Franchise Tagged is a Blessing for the Ravens

Yesterday, impending free agent, Jarvis Landry was franchise tagged by the Miami Dolphins, worth $16 million this upcoming season. Although Landry was easily the Baltimore Ravens’ top target come free agency, missing out on him is actually a blessing in disguise.

The biggest blessing that comes out of all this, is that the Ravens are now able to re-sign Center, Ryan Jensen.

Jensen, who had a breakout year this past season, was heading down the path that previous star Ravens’ linemen take(see Kelechi Osemele and Rick Wagner). Be average the first few years, step it up the last two years of your contract, and then get a crazy payday with a different team.

The loss of Jensen would be bad for the Ravens. Jensen is one of the hardest working players on the team and became a fan favorite after he went after the Dolphins’ Kiki Alonso for hitting quarterback Joe Flacco late and dirty, causing a concussion.

The next plus is that the 2019 Free agent class of receivers is loaded. Odell Beckham Jr., Stefon Diggs, and Mike Evans headline the group, with other big names such as Brandin Cooks, Golden Tate, and Jordy Nelson are also available.

Losing Landry means the Ravens will most likely bring back Mike Wallace and will very likely take a wide receiver early in the draft. (God I hope it’s Courtland Sutton)

Essentially, missing out on Landry means the Ravens can use their limited cap space on other positions they need. They can bring back players in Jensen and Wallace and go after players such as Jerrell Freeman at inside linebacker and Trey Burton at tight end.

Missing out on a stud receiver is the worst, but there’s always a silver lining.
