Info and thoughts on Machado's knee surgery

Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado will have knee surgery soon and now we have more information about his knee injury. Machado has a partial tear in his knee which is not as bad as he had last season but he will have the same surgery, just on his right knee. The rehab and timetable of recovery should be the same.

The Orioles are taking care of Machado’s knees now because he has abnormal knees and they want to correct this problem going forward. And since he is having the knee surgery months earlier then he did last year, he should be ready for spring training.

The Orioles were not completely straightforward about the injury, originally calling it a sprain but Machado said they knew it was a partial tear from the beginning. I can see how the Orioles hoped for the better and hoped that they could get Machado back. Machado was walking around on the knee but said the pain has not gotten any better.

It will be hard to replace Machado for the Orioles but the same was said about Matt Wieters and the Orioles have been fine. Chris Davis has been starting at third base and Ryan Flaherty has been the defensive replacement.  Adding Steve Pearce’s bat at first base has, more or less, replaced Machado’s bat in the number two spot in the lineup.

Hopefully Machado can get his knee problems corrected so he can have a great and long career.
